Showing a strong commitment to the Sub-Saharan African solar markets SMA opened its sales and service subsidiary in Centurion, South Africa, in 2012. Supporting the local economic development efforts in the country SMA Solar Technology South Africa strives to generate jobs, train and educate staff as well as customers.

Service Excellence throughout the Region

Customers can rely on SMA’s comprehensive Service offering in Southern Africa because uptime in a PV plant is crucial. A team of experienced SMA Service professionals is ready to assist when needed most.

Our Service hotline offers free telephonic support while the strategically placed service hubs in Bloemfontein, Cape Town and Kimberley offer fast response times throughout South Africa. The Field Service Team pre-commissions and commissions PV plants utilizing SMA central inverter solutions and exchanges string inverters if required to keep the solar system running. SMA strives for Service Excellence and therefore can tailor make service contracts to meet individual requirements.

Training and education on SMA’s solar solutions

The new and emerging markets throughout Africa not only require reliable products and solutions but also a knowledgeable work force when installing PV systems. That is why historically SMA has put high emphasis on education of solar installers by training them in the Solar Academy. For the African continent we run an SMA Solar Academy training center in Cape Town housed at SARETEC allowing installers to participate in theoretical and practical trainings on photovoltaics in general and SMA solutions specifically. Courses are designed to teach fundamentals, system engineering, installation and communication for residential, commercial and off-grid applications. A range of the latest SMA products is mounted onto training walls for the practical part of the training to ensure first-hand knowledge transfer.
